Musical Theatre Summer Workshop

This musical theatre summer workshop is designed to teach new and experienced singers to effectively extract and perform a variety of musical theatre numbers, either in large ensemble, duets or solo pieces from various popular and well-known shows.

Program Dates: Monday July 21^st to Aug. 7^th, Performance Sat. Aug. 9^th-1:00-3:00pm

Classes: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 10am-3pm (45 min. Lunch break)

Location:Orleans United Church, 1111 Orleans Blvd. Orleans, Ontario K1C 7C8

Audition:Please call or email to set up an audition through the month of June

Please arrive 5 minutes ahead of assigned audition time. Address will be given

Fee:$150 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of acceptance on the day of your audition. $175 due on Monday, July 21^stthen $175 due on Monday,

July 28^th – post-dated cheques are accepted the day of audition and will be kept on file

Program Includes:

• Individual vocal coaching for all soloists and group singing

• Basic movement and stage techniques will be introduced along with dance/choreography

• A group dance ensemble will be choreographed outside of other musical theatre ensemble numbers

• Final performances will be presented in semi-staged fashion on Saturday Aug. 9^th, with light props and costumes

• Music score copies for all solo and ensemble pieces will be provided in advance of the program start date. Singers are expected to learn all material before rehearsals commence

Auditions/Requirements for the Class:

Your skill will be determined by your audition, and not by your experience or past accomplishments.

• 16-32 bar upbeat OR ballad number from an age-appropriate musical theatre show

• Piece must be sung from memory – please bring music for accompanist

• Accompaniment will be provided or you may bring your own – Accomp. Fee: $10/singer

• No Disney or Pop songs for this audition please!

Skills:

• Should have basic (or higher) music reading skills

• A willingness to learn, work well with others and try out new skills

• Positive energy, upbeat spirit and creative input is strongly encouraged
